The next time that you check-in to a Las Vegas hotel room, make sure that you ask about any possible extra charges that you might receive on your bill once you check-out. You might be surprised by the laundry list of items that you will hear. The slow recovery that is expected in Las Vegas after the breakdown of the economy, many Las Vegas hotels are starting to up their extra charges.

About five years ago, Bellagio began to add more and more hidden charges to the bills of their patrons. Patrons were surprised when they began to see charges for using a cabana at the pool, Internet access, and messages stored at the front desk. The Venetian was soon to follow suit with hidden charges of their own.

The drag that the economy put on Las Vegas is expected by many to take a long time to become history. All of the Las Vegas hotels have done a lot to try to make extra money in any way possible over the last year. More and more of the Las Vegas hotels have been following the example of Bellagio and The Venetian.

One example of a recent hidden charge on the bill was told to me by a close friend who just returned from Las Vegas. His Las Vegas hotel (like most of them) offered free wireless Internet access. He was surprised to find a five dollar fee on his bill when he checked-out. When he asked about it, he was told that it was his one-time connection fee for the wireless Internet. While the wireless Internet was free, connection to it was not.

Another example was told to me by a person staying at another Las Vegas hotel who had a run in with a hidden charge. He was charged a two dollar fee for excess room to room calls. This person was quick to point out to the representative of his Las Vegas hotel that he only used the phone five times for room to room calls. The clerk pointed out that three of the calls were made in the same hour, and warranted the fee.

When you check-in at your Las Vegas hotel, ask for a listing of possible charges that you could receive (like hidden charges). By law, any Las Vegas hotel must divulge all of this information if asked. Some will have a sheet printed up already under the counter. You might be surprised by some of the fees that you will have to pay for the most minuscule activities on the property.

Wells Fargo, fresh off receiving a U.S. Government bailout, is having an employee get-away in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Wells Fargo Vegas vacation is set to begin on Friday, and will take full advantage of the $25 billion bail-out that American tax-payers gave the company recently. Corporate junkets, nights at famous Vegas hotels, and shows on the strip will just be part of the enjoyment that many Wells Fargo employees are set to experience in their 12 night vacation to the desert.

Unfortunately, this is not a joke. After Wells Fargo & Company went to the United States Government with their hands out for tax payer money, they are going to turn around and spend that very same tax payer on frivolities in Las Vegas this month. The fun for the employees will begin at the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel for the company's top mortgage officers, and continue through March with a separate conference taking place for the Wells Fargo Insurance Division starting on February 25th. Those Wells Fargo employees will have the opportunity to enjoy the Mandalay Bay Hotel during their stay in Vegas.

It goes without saying that The Wynn and Mandalay Bay are two of the high-end hotels located in Las Vegas, and are not very cheap places to stay. The bills for these hotels are not only going to end up on the backs of the American Tax-Payers, but those who are paying for the mortgages that they have received through Wells Fargo. Those high rates that Wells Fargo has been offering can't be helped when the bottom line has vacations like this planned into the budget. The only real hope for the U.S. tax-payers, is that they don't spend too much money while in Vegas, and end up causing Wells Fargo to come right back for more bailout money.

Melissa Murray, a spokeswoman for Wells Fargo, spoke to the Associated Press, stating that “Recognition events are still part of our culture. It's really important that our team members are still valued and recognized.” While Wells Fargo is still operating on tax payer money, top employees could be enjoying the times of their lives at this retreat. The Associated Press reported that past yearly get-aways like this have involved employees attending Cher concerts, Jay Leno stand-up routines, camel rides, and free helicopter rides. It's probably going to be great news to the American tax-payers that instead of cutting back, Wells Fargo is being frivolous with their money again. Those better be good camel rides.

Las Vegas nightlife is something to write home about. You'll never be bored checking out the dance clubs in Las Vegas. If you have the money to spend, it's worth checking out many of these night clubs for dancing.

Las Vegas seems to always be alive. During the day, you'll find people at the many pools located throughout the Las Vegas hotels on the Las Vegas strip. You might find people in the lazy river or underneath a cascading waterfall. Gambling doesn't stop during the day, and grandma can still be found at her favorite slot machine. Las Vegas shopping comes to life, with all sorts of stores that sell purses, Harley Davidson gear, evening gowns, and of course wedding gowns and tuxedos.

Las Vegas at night is even more memorable. You'll find the casinos alive with those hoping to make their first million on the slot machines or at Black Jack. Restaurants like Shibuya's Hibachi Grill in MGM Grand will be filled with people willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a single delicious meal. And then you have the nightlife. Dancing is at its best in Las Vegas. This article will expllore five of the best places to go dancing in Las Vegas.

1. Centrifuge, located in the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This night club is basically a circle. It is in the middle of the MGM Grand hotel, surrounded by everything. What I love about this night club is that every half an hour or so, dancers get up on the bar and perform dance routines to some really cool music. This club is not as geared towards customers dancing, but some do. However, I put this at the top of the dance list because it's the most unforgettable dance club I saw while in Las Vegas. The dancers have choreographed dances and sometimes also dance freestyle.

No one under 21 is allowed into Centrifuge. There is no dj, just music. The music has an ultra-modern metropolitan vibe, which is somewhat progressive. The club is open from 4 pm through the week and at 12 noon on Friday and Saturday, staying open late into the night as you would expect in Las Vegas! The dress code is casual. The best part about this club other than the dancing is the fruit-infused cocktails.

The ambience is relaxed, yet hip. There are plush lounge couches and seats at the bar. You want to arrive early, because on weekends most of the couches and comfortable chairs fill up! Centrifuge has no cover charge.

2. Studio 54, also located at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. (Let me just say now, that if you want the ultimate dance and nightlife scene, you can just visit the MGM Grand and check out any of their night clubs. You won't be disappointed.) Studio 54 is a take on the original Studio 54 club that came alive in the 1970's. They've just taken it up a notch and made things even wilder. The ambience is retro and very hip and exciting! You feel as if you're at a disco. Recall the moving Stayin' Alive with John Travolta, and the dance club they used for their weekend rendezvous.

On Tuesday evenings, there is a locals party for those in the industry. It feautures DJ Leo Treo, who is also the DJ other evenings. During this event, you can see a behind the scenes dance party from those who work in the business. Studio 54 is open Tuesday through Saturday, starting at 10 pm. No one under 21 can be admitted. You are unable to dress casually to enter. The expected attire is club wear.

Studio 54 has four dance floors and bars, with state of the art sound and lighting. You get 22,000 square feet of night club. The second floor is for exclusive guests only. The music is high energy, and there are live dancers as well as wall walkers. I like the music because it is mostly top 40, so I tend to be familiar with everything I hear. I also enjoy reliving the 70's, because that's when I was growing up.

The cover charge at Studio 54 is $20 per person on weekend nights. On Tuesday through Thursday, Nevada residents can enter for $10, but if you're from another state, you'll pay $20.

3. Tabu at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. What's awesome about Tabu is that the servers are actually models. If you are looking to be waiting on by a beautiful model, this is the place to go for your Las Vegas dancing. The DJ's are also internationally renowned. The music gives a casual vibe to it. The ambience of Tabu is dark but colorful. The mood set is calm and soothing, but with an upbeat theme. Tabu actually won awards for the Best Lounge club systems in 2004 to 2006.

No one under 21 is able to enter Tabu. You also can't come in with casual clothes, as club wear is required. The club is open Thursday to Monday at 10 pm. On Monday nights at Tabu, it is industry night. DJ Roctakon plays every evening. The cover charge at Tabu is $10 for women and $20 for men, each evening.

4. The Rumjungle at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, located at 3950 Las Vegas Boulevard. The Rumjungle is great because you can also order food. Dinner is served on flaming skewers, for a tropical menu. It costs $20 to enter Thursday through Saturday, and $10 Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The atmosphere is electric and upbeat. You can actually smoke inside this bar. The DJ is Electronica. You must dress to impress, as no casual attire is permitted. What makes this club distinct is the different rums from all over the world. The age is 21 and over.

5. Jet Nightclub at the Mirage Hotel and Casino. The Jet Nightclub makes the list of the top five places in Las Vegas to go dancing because it has three different rooms that feature different types of music. Each one of the three rooms has its own dance floor and sound system. One room features top forty dance music such as rock and hip-hop. A second room has 80's and rock music. The third room has international DJ's with house music. The Mirage is open Friday and Saturday nights, with no admission charges for women. On Mondays, it is service industry night.

While Jet Nightclub is always packed and full of energy, you will pay a premium for the drinks. Make sure you have the money to spend if you visit this high cost club. The ambience is lively and bustling. It's like any crowded dance club. This is somewhere to go if you really want to get into dancing and don't mind crowds. Dress to impress, and be at least 21 to visit Jet Nightclub.

Bright lights. Glamorous fashions. Hot nightclubs that stay open until daybreak. If the above descriptions appeal to you, then a trip to Vegas is in order. To make your trip easier, I've compiled a list of the hot spots that you can't miss. As soon as the sun goes down, the Vegas Strip begins to heat up. Never fear - there's something in Vegas for everyone! I've rated the stops by price, with $ meaning very reasonable, $$ meaning moderately priced, $$$ meaning fairly expensive, and $$$$ meaning that you might want to hit the ATM before you head out.

1. To start the night off right, book a fine meal at Gallagher's Steakhouse in New York-New York (3790 S. Las Vegas Boulevard). Based off of it's sister branch in New York, Gallagher's provides a fabulous meal complete with heaping portions. During my visit, my party was lucky enough to reserve a VIP table, which was set off from the rest of the diners. Treat yourself to a 21-day aged filet mignon ($43) and select a side of veggies; I added the mashed potatoes ($9), which were outstanding. If you have a larger group, you may want to try the Chilled Medley of Seafood. Though it runs a hefty $115, it includes lobster, shrimp cocktail, oysters, clams and salmon and serves 4 - 6 people. For menu information, check out http://www.gallaghersnysteakhouse.com/. $$$

2. If your stomach isn't too stuffed from dinner, stick around New York New York and take a quick ride on the roller coaster. You'll get a great view of the strip below as you are hurtling through the air at 67mph. The coaster hits a maximum height of 203 feet and includes many twists and turns. You can commemorate your trip by purchasing a photo of you on the roller coaster. See http://www.nynyhotelcasino.com/entertainment/entertainment_therollercoaster.aspx for more info. $

3. It's time for a quick drink - what better place to stop than Kahunaville? Located in Treasure Island, this bar/restaurant offers delicious tropical drinks. On the weekend, the bar is open from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 A.M. on weekdays and from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 A.M. on weekends. At Kahunaville, I had a delicious Mai Tai that was enhanced with a gummy worm! Kahunaville features flair bartending, dueling pianos, a dancing stage, and a DJ. This is a fun stop for any traveler! $$

4. If you're interested in a show, adults 18 and over can check out Zumanity, which is a production by Cirque du Soleil. Zumanity combines the gymanstic moves that performers are known for, along with a bit of raciness. As there is nudity involved, the age limit is strictly enforced. Tickets range from $141 per person for Duo Sofas to $75.90 per person for balcony seats. For reservations, book at http://www.cirquedusoleil.com. $$ - $$$

5. For a free and quick activity to take in before hitting another club, check out the Fountains at Bellagio. From 8:00 until midnight, the fountain show runs every 15 minutes. Synched nicely with music, the water show is designed so nicely that it appears to be dancing. The show lasts about five minutes and is a must see for all travelers. Free!

6. Since you're in Vegas, you have to add a bit of gambling to your trip. One location to try is Paris, a lovely hotel that features a replica of the Eiffel Tower. The gaming in Paris offers Keno, Slots, Table Games, Sports and Horse Betting, and Poker. The lovely Parisian setting just might help you take your mind off of the money you've already spent! More information is located at http://www.harrahs.com/casinos/paris-las-vegas/casino-gambling/index.html.
$$ (or whatever your gambling budget is!)

7. Want to mingle with celebrities? If so, you might want to try Ghostbar, a hip lounge located on the 55th floor of the Palms. Ghostbar features indoor and outdoor settings, giving you a chance to check out the view of the strip from high above. Try the specialty drink, the Ghostini, which features Midori, sour mix, and Absolut. Reservations are strongly suggested, and proper evening attire is required. For special events, see http://www.n9negroup.com/#/ghostbar/main/. $$$

8.
For a romantic evening out, you also might want to try Romance at the Top of the World, located in the Stratosphere. With a dark and romantic ambiance, this lounge is sure to set the mood for a quixotic evening. You'll also get a great view of the Strip down below. Visit http://www.stratospherehotel.com/nightlife/romance_at_the_top_of_the_world.cfm for details. $$

9. Since you're already at the Stratosphere, you might want to shake things up by trying some of the rides located on top of the building. You can try the Big Shot, which is a drop-style ride in which you are lifted slowly up and dropped quickly, the X-Scream, which is like a mini-roller coaster that takes you over the edge of the building, or Insanity, a swing ride that extends over the side of the building. For admission to the sightseeing tower and all three rides, each guest will pay $27.95. Warning: these rides are not for those who are afraid of heights! For more information about the rides, see http://www.stratospherehotel.com/thrills/.

10. And finally, for the club-goer, a must-visit spot is PURE Nightclub, located in Caesar's Palace. PURE offers a range of celebrities, including the Pussycat Dolls, DJ AM, Criss Angel, and Paris Hilton. PURE is broken into many rooms, such as the Main Room, which includes beds for guests to relax on. The Red Room features VIP seating and a bar area, and the Terrace offers an outdoor bar/seating area. Be prepared to spend a bit of money and time waiting to get in, but if you love celebs, this is the place for you! See http://www.purethenightclub.com for a list of events and celebrity sightings. $$$

With so much nightlife, not all of Vegas can be conquered in one trip. Hopefully, the above suggestions will give you a blend of drinking, dancing, and relaxing, all in one trip. So book your flight, grab your friends, and head out for an exciting experience on the Strip!

A popular question that many Las Vegas travelers have is, “Should I tip the maid service in Las Vegas.” While the answer is a resounding yes, one might not know that there are many benefits that you can gain by tipping your maid in Las Vegas, and more benefits can be reaped if you tip them a generous amount.

Most Las Vegas websites will suggest that you tip the maid service $1-$2 a night. They tell you to put the money on your desk, and the maid or maids will know what to do. These sites push that this is a common courtesy. I do it a little differently. I tip $5 a night in a regular room, and $10 in a suite so that I am pampered even by people I never see.

With all of the money that is spent in Las Vegas, someone might wonder why it is that I would tip so much to the maid service. There are little things that the maid service can do for you that people never think about. While these examples are not always going to be the norm, they have happened to me enough in Las Vegas after tipping the maid service well that I will continue to do it from now on.

1. After tipping the maid service well in Las Vegas, I have had multiple times in which I have found all of my used clothing folded in a neat pile, and had my unused clothing hung up in the closet for me.

2. I have had multiple times where the maids at my Las Vegas hotel have left me multiple bottles of the bathroom freebees for tipping them well.

3. Some Las Vegas hotel maids will make sure that you find some extra coupon books for the property when they realize that you are prone to tipping them well.

4. I have found free VIP tickets in my room for different activities around the Las Vegas hotel property. This was because of my tipping practice for Las Vegas hotel maids.

5. I have received better service from other people in the hotel when they get wind from the maids that I am favorable to tipping well. This has led to too many experiences to remember.

The next time that you are in Las Vegas, do a little more tipping of your maid service. You might be surprised what extras you might find in your room when you return. Now this will not work all of the time, but when it does, it can sometimes payoff for the times that the maids just shrugged and took the money.

The Wynn? Bellagio? Caesar's Palace? No thank you. When I head out to Las Vegas I have only one hotel in mind. Two blocks and 1,000 miles away from the Strip on the inelegantly named Koval Lane is the world's largest Super 8. The rooms aren't very spectacular and having the distinction of being the biggest mediocre motel is nothing to brag about but it has one very important attribute: it's just a very quick stagger away from the best little casino in Las Vegas, the Ellis Island Casino & Brewery.

Now celebrating its 40th year, the Ellis Island Casino is just a squat single story dive across the street from an empty lot that backs up to the towering soulless casinos on the strip. Inside though is a dark, smoky den of Vegas delight. When you enter through its spires - which half-heartedly mimic the real Ellis Island's façade in New York - you'll encounter a moody lounge bar vaguely reminiscent of a mafia hangout. This dangerous vibe is quickly dispelled when the first screeching sounds of nightly karaoke issue from inside. Next to the bar is a coffee shop known for its cheap prime rib and odd wallpaper that looks like shelves full of books.

In the other corner of the casino is a barbecue restaurant and a neighboring stand where you can pick up a slice of pizza while looking out on the sea of flashing, mindless one-armed bandits. There's also a brand-new sports book that's remarkably nice (and thus quite out of place). But where my heart resides is the small collection of tables toward the back. At these four blackjack tables and the adorably tiny craps table, the magic happens.

Sit down at a table where the felt has been pilled up by countless “insurance” swipes and throw in a few twenties. You'll likely be sitting next to a few locals, a real degenerate gambler, a backpacker from Europe, and a few off-duty casino workers from the Strip. Feel free to talk to the dealer: most of them are friendly, some are sassy, and one or two are just plain cranky. Make sure though you don't ask them if they're really from Italy or Thailand or Mexico or whatever is written on their badge. It's just an Ellis Island gimmick and your dealer is most likely from Philly or the Bronx.

The later at night you play the tables the better. In the wee hours, the conversations get interesting. On my last visit, I met an off-duty security officer from the Palms and a young guy from Perth, Australia who was 30 days in to a five month world tour. The talk ranged from the best paying casino jobs in Vegas and the relative unluckiness of certain dealers to why Australian accents melt American girls and the location of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world. (They're apparently three hours south of Perth, in case you were wondering).

Of course, most of the table talk was fueled by the remarkably good beers that are brewed on site. (Even if you don't gamble, they're only a buck at the bar). Depending on the night, you might also see these ambers, gold lagers, and stouts fuel a brawl or help a gambler lose his head on a bad hand and get thrown out. It's more entertaining than Spamalot, the MGM tigers, and Danny Gans combined… trust me.

If you come back every night - and you should! - you'll get to know the dealers and they'll get to know you. Some of the dealers I've seen for a couple years now and I look for my favorite ones each time. Their jokes never get old - maybe not funny - but never old. And there's no poker room here so feel free to talk to anyone at any table.

By the end of the night at Ellis Island, you'll be good friends with the dealers and your fellow gamblers. This is Vegas with heart. Yeah, they're still taking your money but you never get that killing floor feeling like in the big cavernous casinos, as if a greedy baron on a high perch is rubbing his palms together, reveling in your losses.

Like the real Ellis Island, which was a cramped melting pot of new immigrants looking for a New World paved with gold, the Vegas impersonator is a mix of hopefuls -young partiers looking for a good time, foreigners looking for a distinctly American experience, and down-and-out gamblers desperately looking for a score - all crowded together at a small table trying to turn a couple red stacks into a few blacks.

Unlike the historical version, the Ellis Island casino should always be the end of your journey not the beginning. Yeah, you can venture out into the promising frontier of the Strip with its flashiness and facades but at the end of the night you should be communing with your fellow dreamers over the green felt of the Ellis Island tables. Don't worry about getting a little trashed, the smoke-saturated beds of the Super 8 are right next door.

You'll regret your hangover and missing C-notes the next day, but for a few warm moments before you pass out, you'll cherish your small piece of the American dream: the happy glow of making a fleeting best friend, the glorious memory of being up 20 bucks on the house, the joy of drinking good, free beer, and the absolute wonder that a casino like Ellis Island in an ultimately heartless town like Vegas can feel like home.

When most people think of Las Vegas, they think of slot machines, show girls, hot weather, and buffets. And while the show girls and weather are generally hot, a sub-par buffet may be lukewarm at best. With the plethora of buffets in Las Vegas, the first time visitor may be confused as to which to try. Buffets in Las Vegas range from the dirt cheap and barely edible, to the reasonably priced and tasty, up to the expensive and gourmet. I am proud, or rather embarrassed, to say that I have eaten more than my fair share of Vegas buffets over the years. Hopefully, with this experience, I can guide you to the best of the bunch. Any of these choices should leave you feeling satisfied and a few pounds heavier. With that said, here are my three favorite buffets in all of Las Vegas.

At number three on the list is the buffet at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino. The quality of the food is excellent, although the price is expensive. The Bellagio has live-action cooking stations with high quality food from Italy, China, Japan, and around the world. They also have a good selection of seafood, sushi, carved meats, and gourmet desserts. The buffet dining rooms are big and fancy, providing a worthy setting for such fine food. The Bellagio’s buffet is very popular and the line can be extremely long at times. Breakfast is $12.95, lunch $18.95, champagne brunch is $28.95, and dinner is $26.95 Sunday through Thursday and $34.95 on Friday and Saturday. If the price were a bit more reasonable, this would probably be number two on my list. More information is available at: http://www.bellagiolasvegas.com/pages/din_casual.asp

My second favorite buffet is Dishes at Treasure Island. Dishes is the best value of my three favorites. Breakfast is $12, lunch is $15, champagne brunch $15, and dinner is $20 Sunday through Thursday and $26 on Friday and Saturday. If price is a big concern, I would recommend this as my top pick. The food, in my opinion, is just as good as the food at the Bellagio buffet, but at a lower price. Dishes has several live-action cooking stations with food from around the world. There is a barbeque station that has southern specialties in addition to the barbeque meats. There is also an Asian food station, that includes fresh sushi, a pizza station, a pasta station, a salad station, and a bakery and dessert station. The design of the room is modern and sleek so you feel as though you are in a fancy restaurant. The live action cooking stations, where your food is cooked to order, are a vast improvement over the heat lamps of old school buffets. You can get more information on the Treasure Island buffet on the internet at: http://www.treasureisland.com/pages/dining_buffet.asp

And my favorite buffet is at the Wynn Las Vegas. The atmosphere at the Wynn buffet is bright and airy, which makes it feel more like California than Vegas to me. Like the Bellagio and Treasure Island, the Wynn buffet has several live action cooking stations and food from regions around the world. In fact, the food quality, variety, and selection is similar at the Wynn and the Bellagio. What makes the Wynn stand out though is their exceptional desserts. If you are a dessert lover, the Wynn is definitely the place for you. The ever changing, decadent array of desserts will force you to eat much more than you had planned on. An additional favorite of mine is the granola station that serves up fresh granola with an assortment of fresh fruit and yogurt that they stir together for you. The food, the desserts, and the atmosphere make this my pick for best buffet in Las Vegas. The prices are expensive with breakfast being $15.95, lunch is $19.95, champagne brunch $31.95, and $31.95 for dinner Monday through Thursday and $35.95 on Friday and Saturday. It is expensive, but it may be the only meal you need for the entire day. For more information on the internet, go to: http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/index.jsp

Once again, you can’t go wrong with any of the three buffets listed above. The food is great at all three and there is so much variety that you are bound to find several things you will enjoy. I have one tip that may save you money. If you go to a buffet while one meal time is ending and the next is beginning, you may save yourself some money. For instance, if you are going for lunch and you arrive 15 minutes before lunch is served, you will be able to pay the breakfast price but eat both breakfast and lunch foods. This works in most cases, but some casinos may have a lag time in between meals to prevent this. It can’t hurt to try though. Good luck and enjoy your next trip to Vegas.
